Lists of games to avoid would also be useful and so would features from those working inside the industry on these games. Still a drop in the ocean but better than nothing.

Could one or two of these features be reviews of indie and mobile games? Maybe a list of five per feature? This would bring ten games per week into the limelight. This was later increased to two and now it’s gone up to four. May I suggest a possible solution? Previously GameCentral had a Reader’s Feature running over the weekend. The lack of exposure for indie and mobile games was briefly discussed on these pages recently. Microtransations are here to stay, but keeping the publishers honest is more important than ever. I told the teacher it would be cheaper to buy the games on console second-hand with no more additional purchases needed but she said her son pulls on the heart strings just like he would at a checkout for chocolate. It then clicked, Freemium games are the chocolate display at the checkout for games publishers – children have always been targeted by advertisers and companies and it’s gaming’s turn. My reply was ‘Yeah, Lego bricks are certainly more expensive to buy than when my son was little.’ She replied, ‘No buying bricks in the game, my son never has enough and he always gets me to buy more.’ ‘Isn’t Lego getting expensive?’ she said. I thought I would share a conversion with a teacher when I was updating her school iPad with some new apps. Here’s a link to the feature, some of the stuff (well, all of it really) is just crazy. Presumably you can earn war bucks as well as just buying them, but that’s absurd.
